No, it’s a 4Runner.

Are you near Gulf Shores?

I just didn't expect to see one.

It's kinda the same thing. Right?

Yep!

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure.

Sedan had a 5 speed eventually .

Also, I wonder how many Camry bits are in it - not that it matters if they use reliable bits.

I don't know.

I know that the sedan was available in manual, I was talking only about the Sportcross.

I recall test driving the ‘89 or ‘90 LS400 and saying - oh look, that switchgear is from my Camry, this other piece looks like the one in my Camry. And of course, it didn’t matter because the whole was so much more than the sum of its parts. Witness the million mile Lexus.

Well, considering that the Camry is a FWD architecture and the IS was designed to RWD, I’d venture to say none. If anything it probably has more Supra in it since, you know, 2JZ (No Shit.).

That is true - interesting that they thought there would be no demand for a manual wagon. If I had to buy a car right now, it would almost certainly be a manual wagon. I had an ‘88 Camry wagon 5M.

Well nobody bought them as it was, haha. So I guess that wasn’t such a great idea.

Agreed - and I’m talking more about switchgear, master cylinders, radiators, brake components and the like.

I’ve said it in this space before - if the enthusiast community asks for something (brown manual wagon, Impala SS, rear drive fill-in-the-blank) and the manufacturers build it, we’d better go out and buy it, or they won’t listen anymore.

Like, everybody complains that so and so doesn’t come with a manual transmission. Yet this everybody who is complaining can’t even afford this vehicle.

I recall reading a year or two back that they had to stop production on the SRT Viper. No one was buying them. Now I can afford a car, but I can’t have a car because we live in the city. While I can’t spend 100K plus on a Viper, I could, if I needed said car, get an Impala SS, or some sort of SRT Charger wagon (if they still have those), or a top-of-the-line Challenger. But not the Hellcat. I’m not insane. The point is I’d try to buy something niche to say to the manufacturer - yes, we thank you for hearing us.
The last car I had before I moved here was a ‘97 SHO. If that’s not niche (Yamaha heads!) I don’t know what is.

Strange how they dropped the SRT brand, it didn’t really make sense in the first place so there’s that also.

Wasn’t the Viper re-absorbed into Chrysler? Too busy to check now - maybe later. Still, those cars are epic.

No idea, haha. Still awesome though, I’d probably take one over a Corvette.

Right?
![]() 07/18/2015 at 21:32 |

Agreed. As a gearhead, I’d be a lot more inclined to approach an SRT owner than a C7 owner. And the SRT’s design seems a bit more organic to me. I’ve seen one of each in the metal, and I can attest.
And there’s that SRT orange. Sign. Me. Up.

There’s also a whole lot less SRT Vipers out there than Vettes, so it also adds a nice touch of uniqueness.

That’s a good way to think about it.
